Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff Believes in Mick Schumacher Potential

Mick Schumacher, son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, has been signed by the Mercedes team as their reserve driver for 2021. Team principal Toto Wolff believes that if he is given the right environment to develop his skills, then he could eventually earn a permanent seat on the grid.

“I believe if we can give him a safe environment to to further develop, he can be a good racing driver in a permanent seat in the future,” said Wolff. He added that having driven last season’s car and competed two years on the track should prove helpful when giving feedback on how current cars are performing.

Wolff also spoke about allowing Mick Schumacher to pursue other opportunities should they arise while still being part of the team. “Whether it is in our team or letting him go somewhere else, we don’t know at this stage.”

Schumacher Looking Forward To Working With Mercedes Team

“It’s great news for me that I can continue my journey with Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team,” said Mick Schumahcer. “I’m looking forward to doing everything I can do support them and contribute on and off-track whenever there is an opportunity.” He added that it was an honour for him to work alongside Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and all members of the team.

“I’m confident that together we will achieve great things and make sure that both parties benefit from this partnership,” concluded Shcumacher.
